MORE SPALTED WOOD
Zone Line - 97 # 2 - ©1997, Mark Lindquist
This Zone Line photo was taken
from an especially beautiful piece of spalted sugar maple
which was cut from a giant sugar maple tree in Weare, NH, during the winter of 1977.
The tree was approximately 4 ft. in diameter and had been wrestled to the ground by a
particularly difficult winter storm. The wood yielded hundreds of bowls and several
pieces of furniture and sculpture. Melvin nicknamed the tree "The Sleeping
Giant."
