Rockin' Magnum Sawtooth Opus #1 deals with issues of process and journey in making art.  Having developed the chainsaw technique to a level of virtuosity, working with my robotics control panel is now like playing an instrument, or several instruments at a time, but now playing a funky kind of Jazz.  While the Rockin' Opus is still very much in the "Captive" family, the magnum piece now refers to Peter Voulkos' Rocking Pot which was so controversial in its time.  When a pianist get good enough, he/she can play memorized pieces seemingly effortlessly, without conscious thought.  The music then becomes magic, and attached is the wonder of performance.  In every piece I make there are specific trademarks of my past works which are important to me, such as "mistakes", which lead to the innovation of new technique; imperfections, which symbolize the nature of the material; and the rough, or natural, edge which allows us to glimpse the past or history of (our own) nature.  And the melodic theme of which these trademarks are elements is the freedom of use of the chainsaw/lathe, which has become my instrument.
